Students will be able to properly write and set time with 10 and 5 minutes using analog clocks.
Students will review what they’ve learned about analog clocks and the purpose of the short hand and the long hand. Then, students will review writing time with quarter hours and write the times they see on 3 clocks.
Begin the lesson by having students watch and sing along to a video about telling time on an analog clock with minutes. Continue by explaining to students that when the big hand points at a number you multiply it by 5 to determine the number of minutes that have gone by. Have students write the number of minutes that have gone by for each number on an analog clock.
Guide students in completing several activities in which they practice writing time, such as writing down the times they and their classmates need to practice for a marathon they are competing in. Next, guide students in setting analog clocks on their own. Students will adjust each clock to show the time school starts, the time they eat lunch, and the time school ends.
Students respond to ten multiple-choice questions.
Students will complete a fall-themed telling time activity in which they go back one hour for each clock and write the new times in the boxes provided.
