This lesson is an overview of maps, including how they are used and the information they provide.
Students will be able to identify the parts of a map and places that might be the subject of a map.
Students will be introduced to the purpose of maps, map subjects, and look at the difference between a globe and a map.
Students will be introduced to basic map parts- legend, symbol, route, landmark. Students will do a drag and drop activity to practice identifying map parts. Then students and their teacher(s) will work together to build a map of a classroom.
Review maps with 10 questions, including multiple-choice, short-answer, and discussion questions.
Students will create their own bedroom map using given items or even adding their own.
