In this lesson, students will identify and write verbs in the active and passive voice.

Learning objective

Students will be able to form and use verbs in the active and passive voice.

Introduction

Students will review subjects and objects in preparation for understanding how the passive voice flips the two. They might also review the conjugations through various tenses of the verb to be.

Instruction

Students will learn the difference between the active and passive voice, how to form/use each, and the reasons for using one versus the other. Students will engage in activities to test their understanding, including distinguishing between active and passive voice, forming sentences using active voice and passive voice, and converting active voice sentences into passive ones. Students will also solve a mystery with all clues in the passive voice that can be converted once it is solved.
