Students will be able to describe the function of each cardiovascular organ, explain why a healthy circulatory system is essential for physical health, and name ways to keep the heart healthy as one gets older.
Students will take part in a mini-exercise where they jump or jog in place for 20 seconds. After that, they will evaluate how they feel, both physically and emotionally. They will then be introduced to the heart and how it pumps blood for the entire body.
Students will discuss where their bodies get nutrients and what blood vessels do. They will learn about the difference between the circulatory system and the cardiovascular system. They will also discuss the characteristics and causes of healthy and unhealthy arteries. They will have a discussion about healthy habits, like getting enough sleep, exercising, and eating a balanced diet.
Guide your students through 4 true/false questions and 6 multiple-choice questions about the circulatory system.
Review what students have learned by having them name and describe the functions of parts of the circulatory system. Then, have students measure their resting heart rates!
