CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.1.2d
Students will be able to spell words with common spelling patterns.
Students will drag letters to spell the word, "nest." Discuss why it is important to learn different spelling patterns.
Students will spell words in the "-ap" family. The word "cap" has already been done. Students will use pictures to help them think of other words, including, "nap," "map, and "snap." They will also do this activity with the "-et" and "-ig" word families. Next, they will drag words from different ice cream cones to sort between the -"en "and "-ot" word families. Students will also use the highlighter to color in all of the "-an" words. Then, they will think of other words in the same word families as "hit," "sun," and "bed" (without picture prompts). They will classify pictures of objects by their short and long vowels and spell them out. They will also look at pictures and spell the words.
Students will answer ten multiple-choice and short-answer questions.
Students will recall what they learned:
- What are the rules for spelling words?
- How many other words can you come up with for the word family "-ap"?
Students will play a game with partners in which they will look at pictures of objects and spell those words.
