In this lesson, students will learn the rules to match singular and plural nouns to verbs. They will engage in fun activities to show their knowledge of these verb forms.

Learning objective

Students will be able to match nouns with the right verb form.

Introduction

Students will help Nadia get to the castle to save Antonio by following a path of verbs. They will also help "clean their room" by dragging nouns into drawers. When people use the right forms of verbs in our speaking and writing, it not only flows but is easier to understand.

Instruction

Students will go over how to make a noun plural. They will learn the "normal" rule of adding an "s" to the end of singular nouns. They will practice with words like "house" and "girl." They will also learn to add "es" to the end of singular nouns to make them plural (e.g., "fox" to "foxes"). They will practice making some nouns plural, like "game" and "lunch."

Then they will discuss how to match nouns and verbs, such as, "The frog jumps," and, "The frogs jump." They will identify the noun, verb, and the verb change. Students will practice matching verbs and nouns. They will work in pairs to create sentences with matching nouns and verbs.

Closing

Have students recall why it is important to use the right form of a verb and how they determine the verb form to use. In the last activity, students will help Nadia and Antonio (characters from the introduction) defeat the sorcerer by following the path of correct verb forms.
