CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.2.3e
Students will be able to recognize and decode new words that contain the silent letter patterns ch, lk, and lm.
Common silent letter patterns will be reviewed. Students will be introduced to the silent letters h when it comes after c and l when it is either before k or m.
Students will identify the silent letters h after c and l before k and m. Then they will practice decoding them in new words. Students will practice determining which word to use in context of sentences when their choices involve other words that may have the same letter but are not acting like silent letters. They will also differentiate between when these letters are silent and not silent based on the learned spelling pattern.
Review ch, lk, and lm with 10 questions, including multiple-choice, select the words, and open-ended questions.
Students will do a whole class brainstorm of words with silent letters and then sort them based on their pattern.
