Students will be able to identify root words and their endings.
Students will turn and talk to a partner about groups of words, such as "jumps," "jumping," and "jumped." They will look at words with the roots, "walk" and "help," with different endings.
Students will look at what happens when an "s" is added to a noun or a verb. They will also look at words with "-ed" and discuss that it makes it past tense. They will add "-ing" to words like "mix" and "yell."
Students will then listen to words, like "climbed," and select the word they heard. They will read incomplete sentences and fill in the blanks with the correct forms of words.
Students will review how to adding inflectional endings to root words.
Ask students to recall the three endings that can be added to root words. They will sort words by their endings. Lastly, they can spin the wheel to add endings to four root words.
