Students learn to master the sight words ate" and "too" through various activities.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.3c
Students will be able to recognize and read the words, "ate" and "too."
Students begin by reviewing previously learned sight words (Pre-primer words). Then, they will discuss sight words and explain that knowing sight words will make reading easier because sometimes it is not possible to sound them out. Sight words are words that are very frequent in stories or texts.
The lesson goes through the same process for each of the three sight words. First, the word is introduced and used in sentences. After that, students will look at and say the word. They will snap and stomp their feet while spelling the words. Students then practice identifying and writing the word. Complete the word by filling in the missing letters. Then students will do a couple of fun dragging activities that involve identifying these sight words.
Students are given 10 questions in which they are asked to listen to the speaker and rearrange the letters to spell the word they hear, determine which word has been said, and identify the speaker that says a given word.
Students will explain how being able to build and read sight words makes them a stronger reader. Ask students to spell the words. Finally, students will spin the wheel to determine which sight word to write.
